The flowmeter works on the variable-area principle. The fluid flows vertically upwards through a tapered tube that widens towards the top. The float, pushed by the fluid, rises to the height where the flow area is such that the weight of the float balances the thrust of the fluid. The upper edge of the float indicates the instantaneous flow rate on the scale on the tube. For flow monitoring, a version with 2 electrical reed contacts can be ordered.
